Cambodia Calling & Little Red Fox
In a street of pretty shop-houses near Central Market is Kandal Village. Louise Loubatieres, at 7 Hup Guan Street, draws on her European and Cambodian heritage to create exquisite homewares and textiles. A couple of doors down, Doug Gordon at Trunkh offers a marvellous mishmash of must-haves that include old metal street signs hand-painted in Khmer script and miniature Cambodian tin wedding hearts. Across the road at Little Red Fox Espresso, Aussie Adam Rodwell will give you a good lunch and great coffee while his partner David Stirling can whip you into shape with a cut and colour at his tiny hairdressing salon upstairs. They all work closely with Khmer craftspeople and suppliers, bringing badly needed work and wealth to everyday Cambodians unlikely to benefit from the big entrepreneurial developers also setting up shop here.
